There are some not so nice aspects to becoming a mother that are not in the glossy brochure of parenthood. So far I've avoided talking about mothers exclusively but postnatal depression and breastfeeding are topics that definitely have a 'mum' sticker on them.
Dr Kathleen Kendall-Tackett is an American health psychologist and a Clinical Associate Professor of pediatrics at the Texas Tech University School of Medicine with a specialist interest in the current research on breastfeeding and the provision of evidence-based care. Dr Kendall-Tackett is also a Lactation Consultant and the author or editor of 20 books on maternal depression, family violence and breastfeeding, her most recent books include: Depression in New Mothers, 2nd Edition (2010). That's the official part of her title, she is also a passionate advocate for breastfeeding and staunch defender of women's rights to parent in the most natural way possible. Her website is called 'uppity science chick' which almost leads you to wonder how she came by that nickname.
